Instinct vs Intuition
When looking at these two words there are many confusions that should be cleared up about what is what. When we look at Instinct we should look at self as it deals with self and is located between the sacral and solar plex chakras on an energy scale. We could well say that Instinct is our survival knowledge as it is something we don’t call upon but in is in every fiber of our being and is a reaction based which transcends knowledge. If you’re a fighter your training becomes part of you. You don’t think to protect yourself, you just do. This is instinctual. Another way to look at this is in the present time only is when our Instincts work. Driving a car for example or hunting and fishing.
We have trained our bodies to react, and we do react. It is very formable and it is needed. The dictionary says Instinct is “1: a natural or inherent aptitude, impulse, or capacity had an instinct for the right word: a largely inheritable and unalterable tendency of an organism to make a complex and specific response to environmental stimuli without involving reason 2: behavior that is mediated by reactions below the conscious level.”
On a knowledge note we could say it is what has gone into our long term memory and we just do it. Instinct is also our protection and survival mechanisms. It creates the flight and fear syndromes and shuts done the ugliness so to speak. This is also known as our gut instinct. It has nothing to do with intuition. Every human on the planet thrives to survive and they do so based on their gut. The confusion with intuition is most of civilization have closed the door on their spiritualism. We don’t honor our dreams anymore and when we do have an intuitive process starting we shut it down or ignore it, as there is no logic involved in intuition as it is processed by the creative side of the brain. The right side.
Life as we know it requires instinct and it is an invaluable commodity that without we would not survive, however as in any good triad there is the physical, mental and spiritual to this triad. Instinct is the physical aspect of our presence whereas intuition is our spiritual.
I have recently written a blog about dreams and how vital they are to us. The dictionary says intuition is: “the ability to acquire knowledge without proof, evidence, or conscious reasoning, or without understanding how the knowledge was acquired.Different writers give the word "intuition" a great variety of different meanings, ranging from direct access to unconscious knowledge, unconscious cognition, inner sensing, inner insight to unconscious pattern-recognition and the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning. There are philosophers who contend that the word "intuition" is often misunderstood or misused to mean instinct, truth, belief, meaning but rather realms of greater knowledge and other subjects, whereas others contend that faculties such as instinct, belief and intuition are factually related.”
This latter part of the meaning “whereas others contend that faculties such as instinct, belief and intuition are factually related,” is where a lot of confusion arises. We could say that a person that operates on intuition alone would use there intuition instinctively as they belief it is the only way to be. But instinct and intuition are not the same thing. Intuition as stated previously is a completely spiritual orientation. Opening this doorway in our minds starts by listening to your dreams and trying to understand them. It requires patience and can take years to master but it is well worth the effort. We think in pictures our brain is a roving video cam taking in every minute and second in picture form. An artist creates a canvas because they can see it, it comes to them and they paint it. That is the creative side of our brain in action. It doesn’t have anything to do with numbers or logic, mental processing or instinctual development. Our life is a learning process and I like to call it an evolution curve because I believe we work our way home. We currently as mankind use maybe 10 -15 percent of our brain and segregate the creative people from the logical people in this way no one learns from the other.
Intuition is the most valuable thing in our learning curve because it guides us through difficult times and through our life’s lessons. It gives us answers where none can be found and connects us to who we really are within this vast universe. In a chakra energy base this would be from the heart to the crown. The heart being the seat of the soul so to speak and the crown the influx of knowledge from above.
Both are valuable but both serve a different purpose and should never be confused.
